The key to success? Grit – by Angela Lee Duckworth

An interesting Ted Talk about what one psychologist says is a strong predictor of success.

Leaving a high-flying job in consulting, Angela Lee Duckworth took a job teaching math to seventh graders in a New York public school. She quickly realized that IQ wasn’t the only thing separating the successful students from those who struggled. Here, she explains her theory of “grit” as a predictor of success.

The predictor of success (per her talk) is grit – passion and perseverance over the long-term (years).  A growth mind-set tends to build grit…willing to fail and accept setbacks and continue on.

Should we try and recruit people with grit?

She also has a Research Statement with tests (not for commercial use).
